DARK HALLWAYS

Carpeted floors, pictures on the walls, dark hallways

dim lit, no sun, no windows, simple pathways

haunting places, lonely sitting rooms, empty spaces

the soul in passing left no marks or traces

walking, searching, searching portraits of dead faces

stale air there, fresh feared and stayed without

without the walls of burden held

within the sadness of memories doth meld

pain caused by error

to the waiting terror

of inability to let it pass, to let it go

what guilt is this to consume a soul so

completely and yet as fortunes tend to pay

out there is little else to say

for each must walk their own way

some escape and some are forced by self to stay

some are forced by self to stay.
