Went to a meeting last night to learn about brain injuries. I entered Town Hall, where the meeting was to be held, and found a congested room as two other meetings were also taking place. Believing I was in the right room I signed in, gave my email address for future contacts, took a name badge and stuck same on my shirt. The room was small and crowded and they had to bring in more chairs and I found one at the back of the room. The woman in charge started speaking about upcoming elections to the board???? and rallies ???? and protests???? and past elections????? made the sign of the cross when she mentioned one Republican President….what????…and then intro’d the speaker…blah, blah, blah, worked with Eisenhower Admin for 8 years…blah, blah, blah…numerous books about economics????….(I thought this was about traumatic brain injuries…economics???….well, might be an interesting spin) and blah, blah, blah…..not one mention of medical issues. Slowly I leaned over to my neighbor and said, “Is this a CERT meeting?” He looked at me oddly and said, “No, this is a Democratic Party Membership Meeting.” Okay. Okay. SO, if you know me you would know I am a Reagan Conservative Republican. I politely excused myself, and went down the hall to the proper meeting. But now I’m on their email list……holy crap!

I would hope that anyone who reads my poetry understands that I write what comes to my mind and it doesn't mean I'm the reality of the words. I mean that just because I write about alcoholism does not mean I am the character in the poems. I write about those I've known and those I know and a very wide grouping that is of sinners and saints, those who know who and where they are going and those who are completely lost. I am empathic. I write in the first person because I feel the reality of what I am writing about. Like Dean Martin pretending to be drunk while performing I am not what it may seem. Just a thought as I know some out there who read what I write see the words and not the art or the understanding of the problem I am commenting on, nor do they understand that the comment is for the purpose of illustration and not my own personal reality. Married to a wonderful woman who is my best friend. Ronald Reagan Conservative Republican. Masters of Accounting-Taxation, United States Marine, taught for 10 years at the University of South Florida, held the following professional certifications: CPA, CVA, CFA. Published author, currently writing three novels and a ton of poems. View all posts by Gordon
