The Restaurant: Ragdoll Chronicles 1.15.18

Ragdoll Chronicles 01.15.18
“Throw him down the chute!” The five merged on Chase who was trying to get out what appeared to be the front door but was in fact a door to nowhere. The storm he had come through was not visible through the glass, nothing was. Just as they were about to grab him a mist formed in the room and when they all turned to see what was the cause they found a crow that stood as tall and as broad as any of them present.
“What the hell?” the raccoon shouted. “Where did that come from?”
The crow looked around himself. “Where is the pond? Where is the glen?” He stepped towards the others who were backing up to avoid contact with the bird’s sharp beak.
“Who are you?” the mouse asked while trying to hide behind the orangutan.
“Priestly,” the crow replied stiffening up quite regally. “Andy who might you be?”
“This has to be Runa’s doing,” the brown bear said. “We need to get clear of this or we will be sucked into this mess as well.”
“I say we toss both of them down the chute,” suggested the mouse trying his best to not be seen by the crow. “We need to get shut of this before the inspectors arrive.”
“Inspectors?” the crow asked while stepping closer to the five who were doing their best to find an avenue of escape, but the crow, as large as it was, blocked them and held them there with the boy shoved up against the wall behind them.

Predator: Do You Know How To Fly? 09.03.2017 A

This is a continuation of the text in the book: Predator; The Man Who Didn’t Exist; Do You Know How to Fly?

The main title (Do You Know How to Fly?) was a question posed by Delmer Smith to a woman victim as he held our out naked over her 12th floor balcony in the middle of the night and (after he had physically and sexually abused her) he asked her if she knew how to fly.

The book was developed over a period of years with interviews of not only the killer, but of his fiancé at the time, the victims who were alive and approachable, law enforcement, and the attorneys involved. If you desire to buy the book it can be purchased directly from me (I sign it) or at Amazon, or Barnes and Noble, or any bookstore for that matter. My website is http://www.authorgordonkuhn.com  and you can make a purchase there.

Okay, so here we go:

Chapter 2 “He’s my Uncle.”

The defenses plea for mercy.

“He’s My Uncle.”

It is August 14th, 2012 and Mr. Brunvand, Delmer Smith’s defense attorney, will introduce two young women to the Court. They have traveled to Bradenton, Florida from Detroit, Michigan out of love for the defendant. Brunvand plans to show a different side of Delmer to the Court. It is an attempt to obtain some leniency for his client to avoid the death penalty. “Good morning,” he said to the first woman. She had just taken a seat on the stand and been sworn in, “Please tell the Jury your full name.”

“Alicia Phillips.”

“And Alicia, how old are you?” He smiled gently at her.

“Twenty-nine.”

Brunvand continues with questions regarding Ms. Phillips residence and employment. She has come from her home in Bradford, Michigan where she lives with her 3-year-old daughter. She has come to Bradenton to speak in open court on behalf of a man being held on first-degree murder charges.

“How do you know Delmer Smith?”

“He’s my uncle.”

Brunvand asks her if she can point out Delmer in the courtroom “and tell the Jury what he’s wearing?”

She does so, indicating a man seated at the defense table wearing “a striped blue shirt, collared shirt.”

“And is he someone who you consider yourself close to?” Brunvand gently asks.

“Yes, I love him very much.”

“Do you recall an instance as a child where Delmer came to your aid?”

“Yes,” Ms. Phillips went on to tell about an instance where she had “been bad” and was being punished for it by getting “a spanking.” She explained that her grandmother, Velma Shelton Smith, Delmer Smith’s mother, had picked up a switch, her apparent singular choice for dealing with such issues, and was spanking her when her nose began to bleed. Delmer, she told the Court, stepped in between his mother and his niece protecting her from being struck anymore by his mother.

“And he calmed me down, and—you know, he always came to my aid.”

To Be Continued.

Predator: Do You Know How to Fly? 08.30.17 1A

When I began to write this book, I wanted to understand what went on in the mind of such a criminal as Delmer Smith. There are several first rate books on the issue. One I came across was written by Dr. Samenow  who developed a test to reveal the depth of a persons level of being a sociopath. Delmer Smith is a first class model of a sociopath. He feels nothing where his victims are concerned.

The Criminal Mind

Doctor Samenow in his book, Inside the Criminal Mind, exhorts us to remember that “… we must begin with the clear understanding that the criminal chooses crime. He chooses his associates, his way of life, the kinds of crime he commits. He rejects society long before society rejects him; he is victimizer, not victim. The criminal values people to the extent that they can be manipulated; he believes he is entitled to whatever he desires; he does not justify his actions to himself.”

Beer Cans on the Counter and Random Thoughts at 0436 08.03.17

Just woke and fixed a salad made up of cucumber, sweet onion, tomato, and Caesar dressing. Love it. Thinking of writing a play. Wish I had the talent. Don’t think that I do. In the meantime I look at my family history and think of all the rich material there and believe it is sad to let the story not be told. I look at life and see mistakes, countless mistakes, and a tragedy that should never have occurred and wonder just how to handle it. I wonder if it should be told and does it really matter. I don’t know. Really. I don’t know. I just see this pile of shit (can I say that?) and wonder about it all. I wonder who would it matter to except for myself?

Once
a poem by Gordon Kuhn Copyright 08.03.17

I was young once and lived all alone.
Each night I sat drunk in the dark
And listened to the neighbors fighting down the street
He said, she said, oh who gives a royal fuck.

My nightly dinner a plate of fresh boiled spaghetti,
The sauce a greasy mix of fried bacon with sweet onion
My drink a tepid six pack of cheap bought beer
The couch before the tv was my throne
And drunk I had not a drop of respectability
As I staggered about in my individuality
Inside the one bedroom apartment
Lost in a world without companionship
Lost without counsel, without guidance
And faced life confused and all alone.

Beer cans setting on the counter
One rolled up under the recliner rocker
Neighbors fighting down the street
He said, she said, oh who gives a fuck
Simply leave me alone, all alone
Its how I want to live, all alone
Being young once and eating a dinner of spaghetti
Its sauce fried bacon and onion on top a greasy mix
Washed down by a six pack of Old Milwaukee
I could not afford a better fare.

Beer cans setting on the counter
My body asleep on the floor
Alcoholism was the bed time Teddy Bear
Beside the bed near the door
Where I could see the beer can under the rocker
The neighbors screaming, fighting down the street
He said, she said, oh who gives a fuck.

Beer cans setting on the counter
The neighbors fighting down the street
He said, she said, oh who really gives a fuck.

BLOG CHANGES

I am almost finished with a book I have been working on for 4 1/2 years  now. This book is about a killer, burglar, rapist, sadist, and who is now on death row in Florida. It is over 450 pages written from reviewing over 6,000 pages of documents, multiple interviews with attorneys, cops, victims, his girl friends, and I also met with the killer.

Following this book will come a book written from the diary of a man who spent five years in the late 1910s and early 1920s in Huntsville Prison in Texas.

At the same time I will be writing and publishing one or two new books of poetry and a new book of fantasy.

EXCERPT FROM Predator, The Man Who Didn’t Exist

CHAPTER ONE: Murder

She lay face down.
At least, that is how they found the body—face down.
They, being the hastily established Manatee County team of sheriff’s deputies, forensic personnel, fire department paramedics, and the county coroner’s office staff. It was their job to descend on the horrifying scene at a residence in a quiet neighborhood in response to her husband’s frantic 911 call.
Manatee County 911, what is the nature of your emergency
Caller:…I just got home, my wife is on the floor!
911:…Are you with her now?
Caller: Yeah…I think she’s already dead.
911: Is she awake?
Caller: No, I think she’s dead.
911: What makes you think she’s dead?
Caller: She’s not breathing. She’s laying here and she’s cold and blue.
They would come like a small, sudden swarm of cautious, curious, searching ants. Their rapidly advancing presence along four-lane US 19 was heralded by the growing sound of wailing sirens coming north out of the cities of Bradenton and Palmetto.
911: She’s cold?
Caller: Oh, yes. …
911: Do you believe she’s beyond any help?
Caller: She’s not breathing. She’s not breathing.
911: Do you think she’s beyond help?
Caller: I can’t, I can’t…her mouth is bound…gagged. Oh, God.
911: I am sending paramedics to help you….
The disjointed string of vehicles slowed as it crossed the bridge passing over the murky greenish brown Terra Ceia Bay. The conversation continued between the caller and the 911 operator for several minutes with the 911 operator finally transferring the call to the sheriff’s department.
911: Okay, stay on the line. I am going to let you speak to the sheriff’s department.
Sheriff’s department: This is Carey on a recorded line.
911: I am transferring a call to you….
The 911 operator quickly passed information to the sheriff’s deputy concerning the nature of the call and the caller’s identification. The deputy immediately dispatched personnel who raced to the location where the caller was at while continuing the conversation calmly on the phone.
